The Ridge began as a vision of a church in the community
of Ankeny that would be both culturally relevant and biblically
pure. In the spring of 1998
approximately 35 people began meeting in two small home
groups. They gathered for Bible study to re-discover the
purpose, mission, and values of the New Testament church.
On October 18, 1998, Prairie Ridge Church held its first
public worship service at the Northview Middle School cafeteria
with 75 people in attendance. In the weeks, months and years to follow The Ridge experienced God’s faithfulness as it has grown in numerous ways. In October of 2003 Prairie Ridge celebrated its 5th Anniversary with over 500 in attendance. It was an amazing opportunity to see the lives that had been touched by God through the local church.
As we watched lives being changed and growth in attendance we needed to begin evaluating space needs and look to the future of The Ridge. In 2002 the congregation approved the purchase of 20 acres of land located at the intersection of NW Ash and 36th Street in Ankeny. Through generous financial and prayerful support we designed and built a worship facility that we believe will help us fulfill God's calling for us.
On January 14, 2007, The Ridge celebrated it's grand opening of it's permanent worship facility. Despite the exciting move to our first facility we are keenly aware that the future of our church does not come in the form of bricks and mortar. Our purpose remains the same: “To reach the lost and build the found into fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.”
