What brought you to The Ridge?

We had been going to Meredith Drive in Des Moines for 12 years. Pastor Tony married us and baptized Toby as an infant there. When Tony announced Mike Van Rees would be starting a new church in Ankeny, we prayed about it and knowing we’d get more involved if our church was in the same city we lived in, we jumped on board.

How has God used The Ridge to impact your life?

Watching Toby get married here this past June made it very clear to us that God’s impact on our family thru The Ridge has been such a blessing. The love and joy we felt from our church family at the wedding was overwhelming! God has used many obedient followers at PRC to teach us, love us, be there for us, smile, cry, pray, play, serve alongside us, challenge, and encourage us thru the years. We’ve experienced the staff consistently offering a variety of classes so we can grow, Pastor Mike training us thru God’s word, the great kids’ teams – Wee Ones, Ridge Kids, and Junkyard – teaching kids of all ages of God’s love for them, and volunteering opportunities to use our gifts to serve others. God’s impact thru The Ridge has come from this amazing body of believers! Thank you!

How do you see God’s plan unfolding for the Ridge in the next 5-10 years?

We’re excited for the legacy we are passing to the next generation. May His kingdom continue to be impacted by what started here 20 years ago.

Do you have any specific memories you’d like to share about The Ridge?

In the beginning—

  • We remember how great it was to have Megan VerPloeg watch all the kids in peoples’ basements while we met in homes and the bonds the kids formed.
  • Toby and I remember a dead bird in the church’s first office – Pastor Mike’s dog, Kita, had killed it!
  • We remember stacking lunch tables to hold a projector screen so it was high enough for all to see in the school cafeteria.
  • We remember how everyone used their individual gifts to serve at PRC and then just did whatever else needed to be done to put together weekly services so others could come to know God and grow their faith.
